Training Course on the Interrelationship between Water Harvesting & Irrigation Methods

and their Impact on Combating Desertification and Protecting the Environment


The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) launched on the 29th of July to the 2nd of August 2018 in Cairo, Egypt a training course in the field of “Interrelationship between Water Harvesting & Irrigation Methods and their Impact on Combating Desertification and Protecting the Environment”. The participants were 20 researches from the Land, Water and Environment Research Institute and the Plant Protection Research Institute of the Agricultural Research Center.

The course included several lectures on the features of environmental desertification, rain harvesting, applications and practices for dryland management, water accounting and terminology and the implications of water supply and production.

 The course aimed at introducing researches involved in the phenomena of land degradation and desertification on how to estimate the factors of desertification and mapping the distribution of deterioration, methods of irrigation water management and efficiency in dry areas, and assessment of the water needs of the crops under the conditions of desertification.
