H.E Prof Ibrahim El Dukheri met H.R.H Princess Basma Bint Ali


The Director General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) H.E Prof. Ibrahim Adam El Dukheri met Her Royal Highness Princess Basma Bint Ali, President of the Royal Botanic Garden, Chairperson of the Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan and Chairperson of the National Biodiversity Committee in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The meeting came during his visit to the Royal Botanic Garden on Wednesday 9/10/2019.

 H.E Prof. El Dukheri expressed his thanks for the efforts of H.R.H Princess Basma in the fields of protecting genetic resources and preserving biodiversity in Jordan through establishing the Royal Botanic Garden, which is considered as a leading example in the Arab region. H.E Prof. El Dukheri presented a brief on AOAD’s goals, offices and efforts exerted in the fields of environment and genetic resources, pointing to the interest of AOAD in the international environmental conventions and its coordination role for the Arab Group in the conferences of the parties to the three Rio conventions. He added the role of AOAD in preparing the Arab Convention for the exchange of plant genetic resources and the sharing the outcome benefits.

H.E Prof. El Dukheri said that AOAD seeks to prepare an Arab Encyclopedia of Plant Genetic Resources in cooperation with the Arab countries and regional institutions. AOAD will also work in coordination with the Arab governments to develop their national legislation for the management and protection of plant, animal and aquatic genetic resources based on the guides and model regulations prepared by AOAD in this field.
