The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development participated in the seminar "Agriculture and Water in Jordan"


The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) - Regional Office for the Arab Mashreq participated on Tuesday 16/7/2019 at the Intercontinental Jordan Hotel in the activities of the Seminar on "Agriculture and Water in Jordan: (Understanding the Current and Future Water and Agricultural Situation) Financed by the Dutch Agency for Projects, at the invitation by the West Institute" Asia and North Africa (WANA institute)”, chaired by H.E Prince El Hassan bin Talal.

 The meeting aimed to build a platform for dialogue between water users in the agricultural sector and decision makers in the various ministries concerned in this sector to study the mechanism of water sustainability and determine the priorities of its use in a way that does not harm the agricultural sector and seek to involve farmers in setting priorities and setting policies that do not conflict with the principle of sustainability.

The meeting dealt with several topics, including the productivity of agricultural water and how to use wastewater (treatment) in agriculture and integration between the various official bodies, especially the ministries concerned.

AOAD presented its general objectives and its relation to the objectives of the sustainable development goals and the means of support AOAD present to the Arab countries.

 In Jordan AOAD carried out several studies, trainings and implemented water-related projects such as the Wadi Hammoud Dam project in Karak in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and a storage capacity of about 100,000 cubic meters, and also Wadi Harith project in Zarqa governorate and various agricultural projects in addition to its big role in the fields of water, food and energy (NEXUS). The workshop was concluded with recommendations on the need to develop legislation in line with the global development and taking into consideration the climate change in the region, in addition to taking into account the events in the neighboring countries surrounding Jordan.
