The 2nd International Festival of Sudanese Dates


The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) participated in the 2nd International Festival of Sudanese Dates on 2-6 October 2018 at the Friendship Hall in Khartoum, Sudan. The festival was organized by Khalifa International Prize for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation in cooperation with the Sudanese Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Sudanese Palm Cultivation Association, the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) with the participation of local and Arab large-scale farmers, producers and manufacturers of dates.

The festival was inaugurated by H.E First Vice President First Lieu. General Bakri Hasan Saleh. He said that the palm tree formed the Arab environment throughout history and that the Arab region possesses 80 million palm trees from 100 million palm trees in the world. For his part, H.E Mr Hamad Mohammed Al-Junaibi, UAE Ambassador in Khartoum, stressed the UAE's keenness to promote and improve the agricultural sector in general and to support and develop the date palm and Sudanese dates production in cooperation with strategic partners to enhance food security and achieve sustainable development.

 On the sidelines of the festival, the First Lieu. General Bakri Hassan Saleh, launched the exhibition accompanying the 2nd International Festival of Sudanese Dates. His Excellency was accompanied by a number of ministers and international and local organizations and strategic partners.

The exhibition included about 150 sections, involving a number of palm producers, companies and local agents for the date production, packaging companies, seedlings producers and palm textile plants.
